Ideology and binary opposition

Image
1) Watch this clip from BBC Question Time with Russell Brand and Nigel Farage. The BBC deliberately placed the two against each other and the episode resulted in far more people watching and tweeting than usual. What examples of  binary opposition  can you suggest from watching this clip? The two opposition Russell Brand & Nigel Farage are discussing about if there is a problem with our immigration policys. Nigal Farage has a very right wing approach and blames the immigration's for all the problems faced by the country because of it. He says that because of the rapid increase in immigration's; primary schools would be full so there aren't enough places for other children, GPs would have longer queues for doctors, harder to get around places because of the high population. In addition, he states that because of immigrates, general life would get worse. However, Russell Brand is saying that the very rich upper classes are the ones to blame. He takes a very left

Audience Pleasures: The Battle of the Christmas Advert

1) Which do you think is the most appealing and why? Try to use some of our audience theory in your answer.  In my opinion, the M&S is the moat appealing. This is because we create a bond with the little kid and feel that we know him as a friend. I also think that having Santa Claus in the video allows the older generation to reminisce about childhood. In addition, it shows us that Christmas bringing families together which the audience meant be looking forward to. People could also connect to the advert if they had a older or younger brother or sister. 2) Are there any audience pleasures that two or more of the adverts have in common? Choose two examples to illustrate your point.  One other advert that has the same audience pleasure as M&S is Adli. This is because, they both include Santa Claus which the audience can  reminisce  about their childhood. 3) Choose a different advert and identify the target audience for the advert. Answer in terms of demography and psychogra

Representation theories of Deadpool

Image
One of the representation theory that Deadpool includes is Perkins theory. A stereotypes that can be positive or partly true. Specifically, she stated that stereotypes are... Not always negative - Colossus. He is one of the Helpers that helps Deadpool defeat the villains. He is seen as being muscular Russian. Not always about the less powerful (Politicians are corrupt) Can be about our own social groups-Negasonic Teenage Warhead. She is one of the helpers. Young people are extremely into social media. This is because the Internet allows them to connect to other people with the same interest. This part is seen at 2:16 Not always false- The superhero Deadpool finds the princess Copycat at the end to be reunited again. This is not in the trailer but is in the ending of the movie. We see this in most superhero movies as the audience expects a happy ending in all films. Can change over time- We see women in both hero and villain roles. Before we only saw woman in a support rol

Representation blog task

1) List the  different people/groups represented  in the trailer (men/women/Americans etc.) From the clip we can tell who the hero is as we gener ally stereotype superhero to have some sort of suit they wear when fighting the villain. The women we see,Morena Baccarin, acting as Copycat, is a women that is used as a helper to assist Deadpool to get better. At 54 seconds, we see the false hero that tells the hero he can be helped. At 1.11, we see a female as one of the villain. 2) For each group, decide whether the representation is a  dominant  or  alternative  portrayal. 3) What  stereotypes  can you identify in the trailer? The main hero Deadpool is wearing a red suit which is  dominant  portrayal as   we Gene ally stereotype superhero to have some sort of suit they wear when fighting the villain.  Morena Baccarin, acting as Copycat, is represented as a dominant portrayal as we stereotype women to be the kindhearted and be very supporting. It also show us that

Audience theory: blog tasks

1)How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model?  This theory is a linear communication theory which means that the information goes straight from the producer to a passive audience. It means that their are no individual difference to people thoughts the media and everyone will think the same way to the media. From this article, this theory is correct as the students that played the violet games reacted to the situation in a hostile way and had dark thoughts. It was correct as the violent thoughts were injected to the brain. 2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone criticise this front page?   From playing the violet, the child learnt how to hack. He learnt it by playing the game to much and was addicted to it. This front cover shows the hypodermic needle model as they have written the words "BABY FACE" which will shows the audience that a violet game could lead to them not knowing the difference be

'Clouds over Sidra'

1) What does new Media such as 'Clouds over Sidra' offer audiences? What is there a target audience and how do you know?    'Clouds over Sidra'  is a 360 video that allows the audience to move around in what they are watching. This is called virtual reality. This type of media, in my opinion, is one of the most effective ways of watching any sort of media. It allows the audience to feel like there are in the same place that the character is in. When you watch the 360 video, especially in the classroom, you feel that you are there. The target audience for this video is younger people that are into the latest gadgets. It will show younger people what other young people are facing in their lives and give them information but current affairs.  2) How has the new perspectives offered by the digital world changed the relationship between the audience (consumer) and the Media product (producer)? Consider: Sensory overload / the role of empathy / Immersive media Th

My own family

John and Olivia first met in high school but barely talked to each other. John was born in Surrey with a middle class family and Olivia was born in France and also was in a middle class family. Olivia went to international school where she had traveled the world to study in different countries but decided to settle down in the UK. After going to the same school they went to the same University and they found out they where doing the same course. They started dating and found out they had more in common with each other. After 3 years of dating, John proposed to Olivia in a 5 star hotel. Because they both do accounting, they are very busy so they didn't watch to much TV after they got their jobs.  Now they are thinking of having a baby but also thinking of adopting a baby. Media consumption:  They mostly consumed media from their phones as it was more accessible to them. They were able to read the news on BBC news app as they could read it when in the train to go to work. When

Genre factsheet

Fact sheet 3 Genre: Categorising texts 1) What example is provided of why visual iconographies are so important? Genres are categories or types of media text. Genres are recognisable through the repeated use of generic codes and conventions. 2) What examples are provided of the importance of narrative in identifying genre? Genre can also be indicated in the way the story is told using its narrative which is the structure of the story telling and the plot which is the events and occurrences within the story 3) What is the difference between character representation in action movies and disaster movies? Action movies The ’lone wolf’ hero, for example is a convention of an action text. Here the hero tends to be positioned outside a supportive group and he works alone to fight the villains or save the world. Disaster movies The disaster movie usually often places the heroic role within a group of people. Often they all have particular strengths which play a part
