Why does the film appeal to such wide audiences? 

This video has a lot of reasons for how it has such a wide audience appeal. One way is age because it doesn't really target one age group. This means that anyone can relate with the advert so it is easier for them to get their message across. People can say that the girl isn't included in this but she is as other little children can learn to stay safe without parents as well. An example is if a parent forgets to do their seat belt, the child can tell them.
It shows a typical family with 2 parents, male and female, with a child. This reinforces the stereotypes of a happy family. This is one of Dyer line of appeals. It shows that having a stable family can help you stay safe and happy. We can tell this from the facial expression at the end. This advert is a very Hypodermic Needle advert as it shows the audience that if you don't have a family to help you, I can lead to worse things.
The fact that the character in the advert do not speak means that this advert can be shown worldwide. This also means that the audience can infer what is happen even if they don't understand the text on the screen at the end. In addition, the text on a screen is very simple and it would be easier for people to understand even if they don't  understand English too much.
Another way it reached a bigger audience was that it was put on the internet(Youtube).Becuase of this, it got free advertisement and the message could spread fast through people sharing the video. This makes it go viral and people on different social medias started talking about it. As this advert is very emotional,this would mean that people got an emotional attachment to the character and meant they felt scared. This could be a wake-up call for people to always wear seat belts. Because of the visuals, anyone could get the message.
