Ill Manors broadcast: music video analysis

Media Forms
How is it typical of a music video?
This music video has a lot of the same factors that are included in the music video structure. One element is performance. In is the music video, Plan B has used a lot of different locations that he performs in with most other actors. He has used a range of locations that are in some ways connected to the song. The lyrics have synergy with the mise on the scene. The locations such as the parking lot, council house and other urban locations are used to create “real life” situation. The locations used is fairly typical to other rappers music videos as the lyrics and what they are talking about is showing where they came from. In addition, there are close up with Plan B to create a bond and give an emotional connection to the audience through the lyrics. Because of the theme of the music video is very urban; you would expect to have similar clothe as hoodies and tracks suits, weapons to show power and maybe some drugs. These props are used to create an authentic feel to the video and create a street atmosphere. While Plan B is rapping, he is looking direct at the camera which is called “spectacle.” He tells the audience about how the young people are influenced called “direct address” as he interacting with them, the audience. This is common with all types of the music videos.
The music uses low-key lighting which is typical to most rap videos. It creates a dark mood. This would help create the urban street feel to have synergy with the lyrics. Depending on the type of rap music, it would rather be very urban, street atmosphere and show the audience their perspective of life before. However, on the other hand, other videos are very high budgets and have fast cars, drugs, women being shown in sexual ways and expensive clothing.
It also has a strong narrative like most other music videos with fast-paced editing. It also has the typical handheld camera movements to create realism. The pace has links with the movie as it builds tension for each character when they have the flashbacks. The music video has a lot of disequilibrium to show the audience the state they are in because of the government.
Media Representations
How does it represent the London riots/rioters?
In this music video, it reinforces most of the stereotypes that people have about young people from these areas. These are negative stereotypes that people have are directly shown in this video. One example is the use of teenagers. People believes that these kids don't want to go to school and try and help themselves so they quit and have nothing to do so they go out and break and steal the thing. It shows them trying to waste time. It also shows them being careless about the society that they live in and the carelessness of the environment.
People would probably start thinking that these teenagers do this because they want to be on TV which could be true. As no one else would listen to them, they need a way to express themselves which was violence.
The lyrics use bad language which the audience might think that they aren't education. However, if they listen to the words and actual thought about what he was saying, there are a lot of information that many people wouldn't have realised. An example of this is David Cameron saying that he would help the people living around the Olympic stadium and bring money in which he didn't. Also, it could be saying it is rich vs the poor and because of the government, the kids have turned the way they have.

The rioters are represented very bad mostly because of the media. They only show the part where the teenagers are being violent and not asking why they are doing it.
Media Audiences
What audience pleasures does the music video offer?
The audience for this music video has two very opposite sides. One being targeted at teenagers that listen to Plan B and are interested in rap. Another being the middle to upper class. This is because Plan B initial made the movie to show people that aren't apart of that community what it is like. It was an insight into the lives of the unknown for them. It created realism as the movie was worrying as the audience knew that these things actual happened and they had no idea.
People that listen and make rap are stereotypical coming from hard backgrounds. They express themselves through the rap songs. You can say that the people that are listening to Plan B also come from the same background and had a hard time trying to escape that society. It could create a bond for them meaning the it is  more than just a rap song.
Media Institutions
How does the music video help to promote the film of the same name?
because it uses the same title as the movie, it would be easier for the audience to establish that they are from the same movie. Also the fact that the music video is set in the same locations as the movie, it could help audience figure out the basic narrative of the movie.

Plan b released the song so that all his fans knew about the movies as it was written on his CD cover. He then wrote his name on the cover of the movie poster so that the fans could find out. However, he also wrote his real name, Ben Drew, so that no one had any expectation as the public is less likely to know them. Writing the real name meant it got a wider audience as most people wouldn't know that Plan B real name was Ben Drew. He also had the character from the movie in the music video which links the movie and song together.

I ain't gonna beat around the bush here, Ill Manors is one of the best films I have seem in a long long time, If like me, you enjoy British drama's like kidulthood, adulthood & wild bill, then this is a definite!! The acting is superb and very believable.

The Story itself shows a very harrowing tale of different peoples lives living in London, There are drugs, Gangsters, Violence, the lot. But it is very gripping and has you engrossed right from the start til the very end. After watching it, I was in total shock on how much of a Epic film I had just seen. It is THAT Good!!! I would recommend this to any British film fan, it's a must see!! :D
