Ill Manors broadcast: TEDx lecture

3) What are Plan B's beliefs/politics? What are his values/ideologies? Explain your answers.
Plan B tells the audience why he dislikes the government and his views on some for their actions., He tells them that he came from an environment that wasn't helped by the government and he felt that they didn't care about them. This dominated ideology was reinforced as he grew up from schools telling him that. He also believed that he didn't belong in society so they don't respect for authority whether it being the police or a teacher. This means that they always felt that they were under attack all the time from the police and media.
He also believes the rich get richer and the poor get poorer as the upper class. He gives an example which is the Olympic stadium being built. They said it would help the poor community around the stadium but actually made the stadium for the money from tourism.
In addition, he talks about how they don't try and help the teenagers and how they are closing down the community centre that actually helps the teenagers try and get out of that community.

4) Who is the target audience of the TEDx lecture? Demographics? Psychographics? How do you know? How does this compare to the audience for his music/films? Is there more than one audience for this talk?

The target audience for this lecture is mainly adults aged 25 to 40 years old. It would be mainly toward the middle to upper-class people. This is because this audience has the free change to go out and spend money and would be able to buy the tickets. This TEDx talk would give these people an insight to the lives that they have never experienced. These people would have stereotypes of teenagers that they see on the news and say "they have nothing to do so they go steal and break public property." It would more evidence on why these teenagers are doing what they are doing. They are likely to have a University degree and are watching TEDx talks to learn more.
5) What does Plan B say about the media? Explain how this can be linked to Cohen's media theory of moral panicsRead this summary of moral panics and the definition from Wikipedia and use them in your answer.

Plan B says that the media labels the teenagers in negative ways. One example is how the word "chav" meaning as changed because of the media.  before it was a father calling his son a good kid. Now, because of the media labelling the teenagers as "chav", the meaning of change. According to Google, it means "a young lower-class person typified by brash and loutish behaviour." Because of the term as he used so much by every media, it has become a negative phrase to be called.
In addition, because the media only show the teenagers from this location being violent, the audiences would believe that they are always like that. This causes a moral panic and people start to feel afraid as this violent side is the only way these teenagers are exposed. They don't question what they see on the news as they think the news only shows the truth.
The right-wing newspapers like the Daily Mail also show the teenager as "violent youths." All this different type of media create a very strong negative stereotype that people don't question and believe.
