Ill Manors blog task: official websites


1) What examples can you find of the Ill Manors brand on the Ill Manors website homepage screengrab above?

The "Ill Manors" font is the same in all the different promotion way. This is the same font used in the film poster, music video as well as the film.  In addition, the font used for "ILL MANOR BUY NOW" is the same font used in the tag campaign. The graffiti style as stay the same.  They have also used the same locations as the music video and film which creates a gritty urban atmosphere. Furthermore, they have included the music video and film ticket information to help distribute and promote the film. They have included props such as the gun which as synergy with the posters.

2) How does the website encourage the audience to buy or interact with Ill Manors products?

The website has the twitter hastag which has synergy with the tag London campaign. It also has the words “buy now” in a graffiti font to establish a brand. They have include links to trailers, album, DVDs and downloads to help distribute the film.

3) Now look at Plan B's official website. How does it use social media in terms of content and
design? Why might the website designers have wanted to create the look and feel of a social networking site?
From the website, you can see a clear link with the film. He has the cityscape of London which is the same location as the film. It has the similar ethos of dark and grim. The designer of this website wanted to create this atmosphere as most of the music created by PlanB is dark. The simple colours scheme of red and black helps the audiences easily decode the website. The colour red is a colour of blood and danger which as synergy with the film. 

4) Scroll back through the wall to look at posts from around the release date of Ill Manors. How does this statement on Ill Manors link to other texts we have studied as part of this case study? Do you agree with his claim that he "won't justify" the riots? What does this statement suggest about the representation of young people in Plan B's film and music videos?
In the music video and film, young people are shown in conflict with society because of their setting. PlanB is saying that young people will follow what people around them do as they have nothing else to do.

5) Why do you think social media is overtaking official websites in terms of film promotion?

Social media for companies is a easier why of distributing a product such as a film. Social media can reach a bigger audience with word of mouth. If the product you’re trying to promote can questions people’s opinions, it is likely to spread faster as more people are likely to post or retweet their own opinions on that issue. For example, the film “ILL MANORS” had a tag London campaign that had a hastag for expressing opinions on the government.
